Table 18

Table and discursive space

Made for the 2015 RCA Research Biennial Why Would I Lie?, Table 18 is both a discursive space and an object of display. The surface of the table is engraved with a map of an imagined city that weaves together six public spaces that became settings for prolonged protests between 2011 and 2014. A gathering around Table 18 might function in the gap between personal and electoral politics by supporting everyday enactments of deliberative democracy, and perhaps contribute, imaginatively, to the generation of political power. Table 18 is now in use at Fartown Methodist Church, Huddersfield UK.

Materials
Birch ply, hinges, metal angles, brass-plated steel screws, 18 chairs.
